Consistency is the key to successful marketing. Being a constant force with a similar message equals success with your clients and your customers. Let me tell you a story about bad messaging.
This is a picture of Habersham, he’s my 10 week old Chocolate Lab puppy. We’re in the process of house training. When we first got him we always took him out the front door to do his business outside. We did this for a couple weeks.
We started having really good success with him at just a few weeks old! It was great! Then we started taking him on walks, and we went outside via the garage door. Then he got big enough to walk down our deck stairs so we started going out the sliding door to the back yard. Guess what, he got confused. He didn’t know what door to sit by when he needed to go out, so instead he just went to the bathroom in the house.
I’m convinced he’s having setbacks because we confused him. We changed our messaging and he doesn’t know what is right. We know far more about the outside of our house than he does; we know that all the doors lead there. But he doesn’t.
It’s a simple example, but are there things you’re doing that confuse your customers or clients? Are you showing them the front door and then a week later showing them the back door? Remember, your customers don’t know all the ins and outs of your business, so make sure you are consistent in what you’re doing for them and how you do it.
